XXXV. Lengths of Time

Time may be defined as a non-spatial continuum where in events occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present into the future. I measure time as an interval by selection of a regularly recurring event, such as the sunrise, and counting the number of its occurrences. I describe four things. These four things are seed body of world, seed body of self, soul spirit of self and soul spirit of world. I describe each of these four things as having an integrity that persists over some interval of time. Each of these four things exists as a functional whole for a certain 'length of time'.

My seed body remains an integrated functional whole over only a relatively brief, finite interval of time measurable in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. The infernal nature of bodily processes limits the length of time the body remains an integrated functional whole. That is within my body I burn calories. I burn sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. With the help of oxygen my body liberates chemical energy. Like a candle, I burn food in my body for a period and then predators of the body-consuming biosphere consume my body when the flame has grown too dim to keep them away. The integrity of the seed body is limited by its’ infernal nature. For these reasons, I use the phrase 'infernal temporal' to describe the longevity of the seed body of self.

Similarly the infernal nature of our universe limits its’ longevity. Stars may burn brightly for many millions or billions of years. Eventually stars run out of fuel. Stars make up galaxies. Galaxies make up much of the energy of the known universe. Thus the integrity of the known universe may be seen to be limited by its’ infernal nature. As such, I use the phrase 'infernal temporal' to describe the longevity of the universe.

The infernal nature of the seed body of world would not however be limited in its’ longevity. For while the seed body of world continuously burns, I believe the soul spirit of world creates new fuel eternally. I believe the infinite seed body is a truly eternal flame. As such, I use the phrase 'infernal' to describe the length of time of the seed body of world.

Mystery allows that my soul is resilient, invulnerable to injury, subject to existence sustained, has immunity to death, enjoys eternal life, and in a word is immortal. The integrity of the soul spirit of world may be everlasting and in fact transcend time because I believe it is the creator of energy, space, and time. As such I use the phrase 'eternal' to describe the length of time of both the soul spirit of self and soul spirit of world.
