XII. Statement of Faith

An idea is a thought, belief, and or expectation about existence. I use my senses and perceptions to sort ideas into three distinct categories: truth, lie, and myth. A truth is a set of ideas about the existence of one totality that can be verified to be true by use of my senses and perceptions. A lie is a set of ideas about the existence of one totality that can be verified to be false by use of my senses and perceptions. A myth is a set of ideas about the existence of one totality that can not be verified to be true or false by use of my senses and perceptions. Lie contradicts truth. Myth compliments truth. I use truth and myth to build a model of the existence of one totality. I use my model of the existence of one totality to orient myself towards the world and explain the world to myself. I base truth and knowledge of theory on scientifically reproducible discovery. I base myth and fantasy on the existence of discovery and the existence of mystery. I base ignorance of lies on contradiction of truth.  I leave lies to my critics to point out to me so that I may change my model of the existence of one totality for the better. I converge upon a model of the existence of one totality made up of truth and myth that best satisfies my need and aspiration to achieve and maintain happiness and health.  

An ideology is a body of ideas reflecting the needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, and or culture. An ideologue is an authority on an ideology. I am an ideologue. I combine ideas to form a model of the existence of one totality. I build a model of the existence of one totality to explain the world to self and orient self towards the world. I become an authority on my own ideology; my own combination of ideas reflecting the needs and aspirations of my own culture, class, group, and or self. Ideology fashions reality. Reality is all experiences of self that determine how things appear to be. Actuality is the way things are. Some think, believe, and expect that only their way of ornamenting a model of the existence of one totality with myth is actually true and all other ways are false to a lesser or greater degree. I acknowledge that there are an infinite number, diversity and variety of valid possible myths and fantasies about the existence of one totality made possible by the existence of discovery and the existence of mystery. Any one of these valid possible myths and fantasies could be used to ornament a model of the existence of one totality without contradicting finite truth and knowledge of theory based on scientifically reproducible discovery.   

      The existence of one totality is equal to the existence of discovery plus the existence of mystery. The existence of discovery is equal to the sum total of all truth and knowledge of theory based on scientifically reproducible discovery. The existence of mystery is equal to the existence of one totality minus the existence of discovery. The existence of one totality may be infinite. Therefore the existence of mystery may be infinite. The existence of discovery is finite. Take any finite number to represent the existence of discovery and divide by a number approaching infinity to represent the existence of one totality and the result is a number-approaching zero. In other words, quite possibly we know next to nothing about everything!

       The problem we are confronted with during our brief life times is the unknowable. Too many of us affirm an ability to know the unknowable; claim that this ability leads us to a belief in the lie that myth is truth; and then proceed to fight over our differences of opinion; about matters of faith. If; when confronted by the unknowable; more of us were to affirm an inability to know the unknowable; and more of us were to claim; that this inability leads to a belief in the truth that myth is myth; then much if not all of the fighting over our differences of opinion; about matters of faith; would disappear. Maybe; if more of us were to recognize; that we use ideas to build models of the existence of one totality in our minds to orient ourselves towards the world and explain the world to ourselves; and that we have the power to choose to use ideas that are both possible and imaginable to build a model of the existence of one totality; that enables us to have the highest esteem of self and the highest esteem of world; then doing so would create in our minds emotional balance; that is conducive to happiness and health in our lives.

       I fashion reality from my own ideology. I build a foundation of truth and knowledge of theory based on scientifically reproducible discovery about the existence of one totality and derive from this foundation a standard of conduct that if and when adhered to by me is most likely to produce the most powerful physiological responses of health possible. I choose to add to this foundation of truth and knowledge of theory based on scientifically reproducible discovery, a framework of myth and fantasy about the existence of one totality that if and when believed to be true enables me to have the highest esteem of self and enables me to have the highest esteem of world. I combine my foundation with my framework to build a house of ideology that enables me to devote energy, space, and time to the most optimistic thoughts, beliefs, and expectations about the existence of one totality. Doing so enables me to have the most powerful emotional responses of joy, faith and love imaginable and thereby balance the powerful emotional responses of sorrow, fear and anger that follow from the discovery of the impending disease and death of my seed body. This balance of emotional responses in my mind produces happiness. In this way, I converge upon a standard of conduct that best produces happiness and health. 

The true awakening will occur when; the many of our global culture reject the lie that myth is truth in all of it's various forms; affirm an inability to know the unknowable; and accept the truth that myth is myth. The true awakening will occur when; the many of our global culture acknowledge that the existence of discovery and the existence of mystery make possible an infinite number, diversity, and variety of myths about the existence of one totality only limited by our creative abilities and powers of imagination. The true awakening will occur when; the many of our global culture acknowledge that the validity of each of these myths about the existence of one totality follows from two definitions of the word valid. The logical definition of the word valid is: Containing premises that may be used to derive a conclusion logically. The presence of evidence in the form of the universe provides premises that may be used to derive by valid logical inductive inference each and every one of the infinite number, diversity and variety of myths about the existence of one totality made possible by the existence of discovery and the existence of mystery. Therefore the logical definition of the word valid leads to the conclusion that each of these myths about the existence of one totality is an equally valid possibility. Another definition of the word valid is producing the desired results. If the desired results are improvement in our various health behaviors, our immune functions, and our biochemical functions in ways that make our bodies more resistant to illness and better able to recover from existing disease; then optimistic myths about the existence of one totality are more valid and pessimistic myths about the existence of one totality are less valid or even invalid. The true awakening will occur when the many of our global culture realize that a capacity to produce the most optimistic thoughts, beliefs and expectations about the existence of one totality; is the basis for choosing to believe in the one myth that enables us; to have the highest esteem of the existence of one totality; and is the basis for choosing not to believe in all other myths about the existence of one totality that are made possible by the existence of discovery and the existence of mystery.

It is on the basis; of producing the most optimistic thoughts, beliefs and expectations about the existence of one totality; that I suggest to others a belief in the one myth that enables us to have the highest esteem of the existence of one totality. The true awakening will occur when; the many of our global culture recognize that we use ideas to build models of the existence of one totality in our minds to orient ourselves towards the world and explain the world to ourselves; and that we have the power to choose to use ideas that are both possible and imaginable to build models of the existence of one totality that enable us to have the highest esteem of the existence of one totality. We can do this by simply deciding that our position when; faced with the unknowable; will not be a belief in the lie that myth is truth; but rather; that our position when; faced with the unknowable; will be a belief in the one myth that enables us to have the highest esteem of the existence of one totality.  The true awakening will occur when; the many of our global culture choose to believe in the one myth that enables us to have the most optimistic thoughts, beliefs, and expectations about the existence of one totality; because doing so creates emotional balance within our minds; that is conducive to happiness and health in our lives; and not because of the lie that myth is truth.
